Limits

During Activity

During the activity the following observations were seen: - The EPDM material is heavy enough such that it can be carried in a group of 6-8 people. - It is easier when the EPDM material is on top of the levee such that it can be rolled down - The incision with a small escavator went really well. - It is difficult to make a straight incision, so you always go a bit up the levee - Anchoring the incision with u-profile anchors is adviced such that it makes a strong connection - Make sure there is enough material on the sides such that no water is flowing in the erosion pitt during overflow conditions - Working safe is difficult on a steep levee with EPDM material so attention must be paid

Post-activity conditions

The EPDM method hold well. The situation is put to the test and hold well. See other experiment.

Immediate Results

EPDM works well as cover material. In combination with anchors it can tear and you must fold it such that it is stronger. The weight of EPDM is not too much that it cannot be carried but heavy enough against strong winds.

Results /Conclusion

The result is possitive. This is a realistic and promising innovative way to protect the levee when an erosion hole is formed.

Infrastructure Knowledge

- EPDM is new to use as a cover material but works well when you don't want water to go trough. In other cases geotextile can be used. - 4-6 people necessary to place 6x10meter EPDM - Heavy material such as EPDM can be handy with strong wind.
