Objective

To train future experts

Activity Brief descriptor

After the emergency reparation a more permanent solution can be placed. The Rock bag and the clay fill are more permanent solutions that are used in England and the Netherlands.

Limits

During Activity

The erosion hole that was filled was first repaired with a sand bag embankment and EPDM foil. Students removed the material and observed the location before a more permanent reparation is made. From the webinar a reparation with clay is one of the solutions so that is why we repaired it with clay. To place the clay a big escavator was needed. The underground needed some preparation and the clay humbs were removed and a stairway profile was made. This is done such that it cannot slide. The clay from the polder is placed layer by layer in 20cm thickness in the erosion hole and pressed by the escavator. It took about 20 minutes to close the hole and was a very time and labor efficient solution.

Post-activity conditions

The bare clay needs some grass cover and several cover materials are tested. See experiment about geotextiles

Immediate Results

Time it takes to repair an erosion hole wilt clay.

Results /Conclusion

Very time efficient and labor efficient reparation method. The lime is not erosion resistance, so in combination with a geotextile this can be a good emergency reparation. However not at every location it is possible to use such a big escavator.
