Objective

To compare survey results derived with four different methods; 1. visual inspection, 2. GPR scanning, 3. Smoke test and 4. Grouting and excavation.

Activity Brief descriptor

A 4m-wide levee section was surveyed with a visual inspection and subsequently scanned with GPR. Some clusters of burrows were tested with an improved version of the smoke test to evaluate its effectiveness and to identify interconnected burrows. In the end, a cluster of small burrows was grouted with concrete in order to be excavated by students in the upcoming winter school weekend.
